Oh! Darling

            Image
The first time I set eyes on Lindsey Thornburg's fall 2013 ready to wear collection I fell in love. Yes, it was love at first sight. It was sweet candy for my eyes. I automatically connected with her whimsical, quirky, and dreamlike designs. Lindsey Thornburg, a local New York Designer, is fairly new to the fashion world as there are only about four ready to wear collections released. But don't let that fool you, for Lindsey has much experience. While attending design school in Los Angeles she started creating her first dress collection under the name of Fabric. After traveling to Machu Picchu in 2006, she turned in a different direction and began creating a cloak collection, which was inspired by the natives attire in Machu Picchu and her extensive collection of Pendelton blankets. Lindsey expanded her collections beyond cloaks when in 2010 she released her first full ready to wear collection. In an interview, Lindsey describes her designs as "urban 90's witch, with a touch of eclectic bohemian" and has even admitted her designs are " fundamentally hippie-dippy," which I personally think is a total plus!

WARNING: If you have a horrible fear of clowns do not watch! But if not continue on for this glamorous and a tad creepy fashion video.
The video embraces a playfulness but also a dark side. The two mischievous "clowns" take a lively adventure through the forest, gallivanting in water colored skirts, velvet dresses, and vibrant hair.

Lindsey Thornburg on the background of the video: "It seems to me they are just precocious girls trying to have a good time. Isn't that what all us gals are fundamentally doing? Playing dress up to get guys or girls to pay attention to us (at least in this city). As much as we tried to work with narrative we just ended picking the best imagery and building the story around the edit. The film is based on Jean Rollins REQUIEM POUR UN VAMPIRE (1971), so for all you film aficionados we are well aware this isn't an original idea. Olivia, Crystal, and I are just paying homage to our love of 1960 psychedelic directors such as Rollin and Alejandro Jodorowsky." source

Coachella Dreaming

Festival season is finally here! This is the perfect time of year to wear that lovely flower crown you've been dying to wear with a flowy maxi dress and to dance your little heart out under the sun. My favorite music festival, Coachella, has just begun yesterday in Indio, California. Sadly, I'm still in cloudy New York. I wish I could just hop on a plane and jet to California but unfortunately I can't (wahh), so mad I'm missing out on the good vibes, awesome tunes and sunny weather. But there's always next year right. However, this year I'm just going to imagine I'm going to Coachella, hence my frantic "packing" I've been doing. So I decided to give you guys a little peek of what's going in my suitcase. I compiled three outfits that would be a must for Coachella including lots of booties, crochet, tribal patterns, fringe, floppy hats, and round sunnies (an absolute necessity!). Even though, its a music festival, the fashion is highlighted almost as mush as the music.

How rad are those shorts from Topshop!! The colors of  along with the pattern makes a great pair of shorts for the summer when you need to liven up an outfit. This outfit has a lot going on with all the different textures but festivals are the perfect place to go all out. There's no rules or exceptions!

I love this beautiful lacy dress paired with the flower crown, it gives off a flower child type of vibe. Also, the material of the dress is light enough that you wont be dying in the beaming sun of California.

The highlight of this outfit for me is definitely the suede skirt. These Sam Edelman ankle boots complement the skirt perfectly especially with woven tribal print to add some spunk. The floppy hat is a must, not just to look fashionable, but to shield your skin from the torching sun. I also love the Free People diestressed leather tote which is not a surprise because I adore anything that's Free People. The brand gives off such a free spirited bohemian vibe.

For all of those readers who are dying to see the performances like me and you feel like you are missing out on all the awesomeness, you won't trust me. Because you can go on YouTube and watch the festival on a live stream ( thank goodness for technology). Go ahead  and listen to all your favorite bands. I know I will definitely be watching Beach House, Phoenix, Tame Impala, Wild Belle, The Postal Service,  and many more.
